Bellydancing For Fitness, Health, Birth Preparation and Postpartum Recovery

Forget the hollywood image of women dancing seductively, "Bellydancing" has enough history and physical benefits that trumphs any stereotype.  Learn to love your physical female attributes, embrace your feminine energy, and express your beauty in motion.

The style we now call "bellydance" can be traced back to ancient Mesoptamia, which existed over 6000 years ago.  Traditionally the dance began not as entertainment, but developed closely with childbirth.  The sisters of the women giving birth would aid the new mother by undulating and rolling their bodies in natural, curvy, serpent-like movements to contribute to parturition.  Belly dancing is different from tap, or modern jazz dancing.  The graceful hip drops, rolls, and pivots of Raks Sharki utilize muscle groups in the abdomen, pelvis, trunk, spine, and neck, working with the body instead of against it.  This is unlike ballet, which can potentially alter and deform the skeleton.  Bellydance is a new way for women to strengthen, tone, increase flexibility, burn calories and energize your body.
