The Family begins in a commitment of love.

If you were to hold a lump of dark green clay in one hand, and a lump of light green clay in the other, you could clearly identify two shades of color.  However, if you were to mold two lumps together, kneading them thoroughly until they were truly blended, you would see just one lump of clay... at least at first glance.  Upon closer inspection, you could see the distinct separate lines of dark and light green clay, yet it would be virtually impossible to separate the clay into two pure colors again.  That is an image of what it means for a husband and wife to become “one flesh” – love binds couples together, especially as they knead out some of their differences and develop a life of mutual goals, activities, and relationship.  (God’s little devotional book for couples, Honor Books.)

Birth is the most indelible life changing event for both the mother and the father.  Mother, Father and baby are one, all working together as a whole.

Your presence and support, especially during the actual birthing, cannot be equalled.  A woman in labour can be vulnerable, sensitive and unassertive.  You will be her advocate, her spokesperson, her guide.  And at the moment of birth, you will feel the exhilaration that comes with knowing that together you have made this miracle-one that neither of you will ever forget.
